Private Equity Internship

Who wants to be a deal-maker?

Join us center stage for the opportunity of a lifetime to experience private equity, from deal sourcing to deal closing and value creation, right at the beginning of your career. Be part of our high-performing team, comprised of only A players, working on live deals.

We don’t give our interns boring jobs like mindless spreadsheet number crunching or tedious slide deck shuffling. We baptize them by fire and keep them fired up throughout the internship. You will join one of our deal teams working on live deals on day one. If this sounds more like Navy SEAL Training than yet another internship, you’re right because it is. But, if this is a challenge you are looking for, we want you to join us in doing deals.

  • Participate in and take notes in phone calls with investors, investment bankers, and business owners;
  • Perform all other duties as a member of the investment team.

Role Requirements

  • Astounding verbal and written communication skills;
  • Grit, resourcefulness, and resilience are a must-have;
  • Highly motivated with a strong interest in private equity, entrepreneurship, or finance;
  • Willingness to elevate the internship to the highest level of importance and to stick with the required weekly time commitment throughout the term;
  • Currently enrolled at or recently graduated from a top-tier graduate or undergraduate business program;
  • Microsoft Excel mastery;
  • Bonus points if you have previous background in consulting, investment banking, or private equity;
  • Additional bonus points if you have CFA, CPA, FRM, or CAIA designation or are a candidate for any of them;
  • Interested candidates should email a cover letter, resume, and grade transcript (unofficial or interim transcripts acceptable) to internship@backernorth.com. In your cover letter, please explain why you are interested in the internship and what skills you aim to develop.
  • Please do not bypass the application channel specified above by sending unsolicited texts, emails, phone calls, or meeting invites to our team members!

PRO TIP 1: Don't let the dog eat your homework. Add the backernorth.com domain to the list of trusted domains in your email client to eliminate any chance of our emails landing in your spam folder.

PRO TIP 2: If you want to score an interview for this role, stand apart from other candidates by writing about how you meet the role requirements and envision fulfilling the role responsibilities. Also include your availability, desired start and end dates, and how many hours you can work per week.

PRO TIP 3: Dare to be different! Shun the resume template everyone else uses and make one of your own to highlight your unique character and achievements. Write your detailed cover letter to demonstrate that you have thought through how this internship fits your career aspirations and interests. Refrain from using tired phrases--write in a direct and conversational tone that shows you want this internship more than other candidates.

Please note that the internship is unpaid; however, you can expect significant mentorship from our managing partner and a wealth of exciting experiences that should serve you well in pursuing your private equity or business career.
